1 Oct 2007 - Ilton wins Buisness award
The awards ceremony for the Calor Village of the Year, Somerset, competition was held on the evening of Thursday 27th September. At Glastonbury Town Hall. Ilton was represented by Dave Amor,(Parish Council Chair), Jaqueline Bennett, (Parish Council), and Sue Steele (District Councillor) The Awards were presented by Lady Elizabeth Gass JP, Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset.
The Judges Comments.
The judges are pleased to be declaring Ilton Parish Council winners of the Business category and are confident that, with a fuller initial entry, further successes are likely in future years. It was clear to the judges that Ilton Parish Council have sound initiatives on all fronts and efforts at business integration with the community are only the first to come to fruition. The level of business sponsorship of community events was impressive and community support was evident in the health of 3 food shops, a large range of enterprises catering for local needs and the village post office/shop operating amazingly extended hours to add to its other community initiatives. Ilton Parish Council clearly excel at community planning and posses a generosity of spirit which is turning what some communities may see as disadvantageous historical development into full community assets serving a community wider than confined by parish boundaries.
