4 Jun 2007 - International local government visits Ilton
They were shown the new Ilton Merryfield Village Hall (newly built by the community, facilitated by South Somerset's Enable-Partner-Deliver philosophy).
They were welcomed to the hall by villagers representing some of the user groups of the hall and Parish council Chairman Dave Amor gave a brief talk about the village and how projects have benifited from the community working closely with the District Council.
The visit focused on democratic leadership and participation and community engagement and empowerment, i.e. how to encourage people and communities to be involved in local decision-making and providing them with the opportunity and knowledge to make a difference for themselves.
The visitors were also shown other community projects such as the Aquacentre in Crewkerne (a community not-for-profit swimming pool and fitness centre) and were also taken to visit Ham Hill.
