5 May 2005 - Wessex water to cut off village

Wessex Water are proposing to close the main road through the village between Spurwells and St Peters Close for up to 5 weeks!
This will mean that no one north of St peters close including spurwells and the business park will be able to drive into the village during this time. It will mean a long detour of at least 3.5 miles if the proposal is accepted by the highways authority, through very narrow lanes which are allready signed as unsuitable for HGV's. Many services will be affected including no bus service to spurwells, problems for the school buses, postal service, library, emergency vehicle access to the northern end of the village and also difficulties for the Royal Navy. Large HGVs that use the business estate will also be made to use these very narrow lanes, which are totally unsuitable for this amount of heavy traffic as the road signs indicate.
