Original Ilton School

This page shows pictures of Ilton school at its original site next to the village green.

This is the entire primary school and its three teachers Mr Johnston, headmaster, Mrs Aitken and Miss Ford. It was taken in the courtyard outside the original school. I can remember when the yard was tarmaced over - before that it was all grass. I regretted the loss of grass. It was dirty and muddy but it did not graze your knees when you fell down like tarmac does.

This would be around 1955 perhaps a little earlier because if that is Ruth Watts in the front row, it would be before the Standard factory moved from Ilminster to Paignton, at which time Ilton lost a lot of families and the school a lot of pupils.
