2/1 Ilton Talking September 2002

News from St Mary & St Peter's CE VC First School
The end of term was full of mixed emotions for many at the school. A very successful summer fayre was held at the end of June and plans are underway to organise a similar event next year.

Some of the children took part in the annual school trip to West Bay and had a wonderful time.

The school had excellent Sats results this year so congratulations to all the pupils and staff who helped to achieve these results.

The weather was good for the annual end of term BBQ. Everyone enjoyed themselves although the night was tinged with a little sadness as we said farewell to Mrs Daley and Mrs Tyszka who left at the end of term. A presentation was made to them both on behalf of the parents and they were thanked for all their hard work at the school.

A presentation was also made on a special evening organised by the staff and governors which was held at the Ilton Base.

There was a surprise for Mrs Daley and Mrs Tyszka when Orchard FM appeared during lunchtime and they were given a tray of cakes from the Orchard FM coffee break as a special thank you.

At the leavers assembly we also said goodbye to two of our pupils, Natasha Cox and Jessica Watson. The school wishes them both every success for the future. Natasha had a special surprise for everyone when she sang a couple of songs during the assembly.

Everyone is looking forward to the new term as we welcome our new teachers Miss Marshall and Miss Beales to our school and wish them every happiness. Back to top

District Councillor Roger Hughes opened the track and waved the riders through.
The track was finished at the start of the summer holidays after a short delay due to the poor weather. It has been well used since with many young people using the facility.
The funding for the track came from grants from Ilton Parish Council, South Somerset District Council and Wyvern Environmental Trust.
Work is to start shortly on the skate area. Plans for the type of equipment to be installed are underway so the size and shape of the skating area can be determined.

Ilton; helping to make our village a better place
Sgt. Rob Smith informed the meeting that it is still his intention to maintain a high degree of visual police presence in the Parish. He also confirmed that as soon as the manpower was in place that Ilton would be the next area to have a beat manager. He also made the meeting aware that he appreciated the will from within the parish to make things work.
It was reported that a couple of parishioners had expressed an interest in becoming part of the neighbourhood watch. Scheme, also it was reported that a parish councillor would be happy to be a co-ordinator. Sgt Smith said he would arrange for help in setting up a neighbourhood watch in the village.

The parish council would also be sending a letter to the Chief constable expressing concerns over the lack of resources in this area.

Happily the BMX track was completed at the start of the summer holidays after a short delay due to the bad weather. The track is being well used and work is continuing on the skate area.

There had been some interest in providing a youth shelter where the young people could meet. Some information has been obtained and further discussions will take place with the young people and the parish council.

Further meetings will be taking place and we will keep the parish updated through Ilton Talking and the parish notice board. Back to top
